Questions about Summer Programs

Where is Applause located?

We are located on the Upper East Side of New York City. Our exact address is 184 East 76th Street between Third Avenue and Lexington Avenue.

Do you offer early drop-off or late pick-up?

No, we do not offer early drop-off or late pick-up, but we have several waiting areas and a beautiful outdoor courtyard for you to wait in with your child if you arrive early.

Do you allow parents in the classroom?

We do not allow parents in the classrooms, so please sign up assuming your child can handle a separation for the entire length of the day. We always end our week with a performance for family and friends where you can see what your child has been working on!

Do students entering the Jr. Clubhouse (ages 3-5) need to be fully potty-trained?

Yes, we require all of our summer students to be fully potty-trained before signing up.

What does my child need to bring for the Applause Summer Program?

Please pack a labeled water bottle, a nut-free lunch and nut-free snack each day. Students in our Jr. Clubhouse (ages 3-5) do not need to pack a snack, just a lunch, as we provide snack for this age group. Many children also bring a light sweater or sweatshirt for when they are in the air-conditioning. Please make sure all personal belongings are labeled with your child's name.

Can my child sign up for multiple weeks of the Applause Summer Program?

Yes! We have many students who will sign up for the entire summer as we work on different material each week. While the structure of the week is consistent, we refresh our theme, movie script and songs each week and every Friday there is a brand new performance!

Is it possible to switch weeks after I'm registered?

Yes, we allow all students to switch weeks as long as we are notified before June 1st.

Questions about Classes

Do I have to re-audition for the Applause Dance Company if I've been a part of it in previous semesters?

No. However, an audition is required to move up divisions within the company. You will also have to re-audition if you have taken more than two semesters away from the company.

Can I transfer class sections mid-semester?

Each class works on their own material, so there is a possibility of transferring if you do so within the first week or two of the semester. Once we approach the third week of the semester it will be impossible to make a change.

Is there a performance at the end of the semester?

We at Applause take our name very seriously. That is why almost every class ends with a performance! We believe that there is nothing like the thrill of putting your training to work in front of an audience. The type of performance varies depending on the type of class. Please reference the class page on the website for specific details on end-of-semester performances.

Is an audition required for the Dance Technique classes?

No, anyone is welcome to join one of our Dance Technique classes. If you have a question regarding which level your child should take please contact the Director of Dance by emailing Kristina@applauseny.com

What styles are included in the Applause Dance Company?

Styles include hip-hop, jazz and contemporary with a foundation in ballet.

How do I schedule an audition for Dance Company, Company A Class or Company B Class?

Please reach out to our office by calling 212-717-0703 or e-mailing alex@applauseny.com to request an audition.

Do kids receive acting training in Musical Theater classes?

It is our philosophy that our students should train in all three areas of Musical Theater - singing, dancing and acting. We emphasize acting training in all of our After-School and Weekend Musical Theater classes.

Are tickets to the performances included in the price of the class?

Tickets to the shows are not included in the price of the class. Tickets for all Applause shows can be purchased by clicking on the “Tickets” tab of our website menu.

Is there a dress code for classes?

We encourage all students to wear comfortable clothes that will not restrict their movement. Please see below for specific details corresponding to your class type.

After-School/Pre-School Classes:

  • While there is not a strict dress code for our pre-school or after-school theater classes, there is a dress code for dance classes. Each after-school dance class is assigned a specific color shirt to wear each week to class. Please check class policies for more details.

Film Acting Classes:

  • In our film acting classes, some students may be asked to wear certain clothes throughout the semester as their costume for filming.

Dance Company:

  • Dance Company members are required to wear all black (rehearsal blacks) to each class. Black yoga pants, dance pants, leggings, black tank tops, black t-shirts, or black leotards are acceptable. Black athletic shoes and black jazz flats are required footwear for Dance Company.
Dance Technique Classes:
  • Intermediate Technique students should wear black yoga pants/jazz pants/leggings, a fitted white top (no patterns) and athletic sneakers or jazz flats.
  • Advanced Technique students should wear black yoga pants/jazz pants/leggings, a fitted blue top (no patterns) and athletic sneakers or jazz flats.
Weekend Workshop A & B Classes:
  • You may be asked to wear certain types of dance shoes depending on the show you are cast in. All students should come prepared to dance at every class.
